What's a YimYax?

A word coined by my Mother, who grew up in the Bronx in the 1940s-1970s. She said to me and my friends one day, “Keep it down over there, you sound like a bunch of yim yaks.” I’m assuming it was some broken Yiddish hybrid of a bunch of Yaks standing around making noise. Whatever the metaphor, the phrase stuck with me. Thank you Mom.
